Hello, UK S2 devices appear to have been offline since 14:30 CET today. Is there a known issue?
Ooh wait I just power cycled mine and dashboard now reports that it is counting.
We were made aware of an issue by our provider in the afternoon yesterday that they had suffered an issue, yes. It did not affect all devices, but did affect some, so I’m sorry this included you but we’re glad to hear it was temporary.
Thanks for checking in
I guess what I feel would be useful is some notifications for both me the device host and you at HQ. For me it would be great to get an email if say my device has not been sending data for >1hr. (This covers not just Comms outage but also small child pulling usb cable out!!!)
For you it would be useful if you had notification of a significant drop in the number of devices online (nicely reported in lower left corner of map view) between reporting time points that could be indicative of a local/regional Comms outage.
We already do send a series of such messages, but not for just 1 hour.
As you can imagine, polling all devices continuously would be a high cost, plus there are many reasons that a device might be temporarily offline that don’t need an email every time. We do check them every 24 hours and send messages after that, plus then at intervals of a few days (in case someone is away).
All this information is also relayed to the network manager if a device is part of a network so they can monitor and follow-up if needed.
In terms of small, local outages, we are updating the firmware to have the device check in more regularly and reboot if necessary.
