Sensor placement near a stop sign?

Is it a good idea to place a sensor right next to a stop sign? The intersection itself would not be included, of course.

There are many stop sign violations where I live, so I thought it might be nice to have a sense for how fast cars are going as they approach an intersection, but it might also make the data less clean if cars are actively accelerating or slowing down. Any thoughts?

We don’t encourage this for that very reason. Cars that are slowing down and speeding up will not give you an adequate picture of the speed of the road. Our devices are intended as counters and not really for monitoring or enforcing stop signs. While we can point to speed issues at certain times, this is not about enforcement.
