Selecting dates in web-interface to display data for a location

Hello,
I looks like an update has restricted the data available to display for a location down to two weeks.

Firstly, I hope this is not part of a cynical ratcheting down of free-to-access functionality to force users onto a paid subscription.

But leaving the above aside, the implementation of the date window looks imperfect to me.
It appears that the selection is anchored to the start date. If I chose a start date, then the available dates in the drop-down for end date are indeed limited to start+14days. However once I select an end date I can go back to the drop-down for the start date and select any date including one more recent in time than the end date and hit “update”, leading to something messy like the attached screengrab.

I think some sort of anchor needs to be placed on the end date selected so once that is set it only allows start dates of enddate-14days.
Cheers - Danny

PS: I can understand limiting the amount of allowable data from the database to be displayed on a single webpage but I think a two week window is much too restrictive when wanting to quickly look for trends.

Hi Danny,

Yes, you’ll have noticed some changes troughout the website, data-interface and personal dashboard. We’ve done quite a big update.

Thanks for spotting that bug on time interval selection. That one still slipped trough. Should be fixed now?

Regarding shortening the interval selection, there’s a couple of reasons why we did that. We already reduced the period from 1y to 3 months max sometime ago because query timed out on long intervals. That only partly solved the problem and loading time was still rather high, so we had to do something. Secondly, we’re getting more traffic (website visitors that is, not cars  ) on the website, meaning more data queries. This is becoming a rather costly service we have to maintain.

So, the change we made is for device owners to have access to all data in their own personal dashboard (so exactly the same, and now in a better interface I’d say), to not “take something away” from the users. At the same time, we simplify the data interaction on the public page for all segment for public use (becasue that’s the one which is creating load), for not-logged in users. Also, all data is still accessible via API as well.

Hope this explains our reasoning and it’s clear it’s not our goal to force users to a paid subscription. Subscriptions are mostly for professional users (transport authorities, consultancies…) and that hasn’t changed.

We’ll be posting a more comprehensive thread on the feature updates soon.

Hi Kris,
Thanks for the reply - honest and very helpful!
Excuse my cynicism(!) too much time spent on other less constructive websites…
I will indeed be making the most of the API functionality.
Look forward to reading any change documentation and updates.
Best, Danny
