Have you powered your Telraam device with a battery pack?

I have been asked a few times about whether it is possible to power a Telraam S2 device using a power bank or battery rather than with the plug? I thought it might be useful to collect some experience here to share.

The simple answer is YES.

As the device does not draw a lot of power, it should easily be able to be powered this way, but of course, the counting will only last as long as the battery does.

There are many different types of power solutions out there, so I was wondering if you are using, or have tested, a specific solution that worked well (or not well) that you’d be willing to share with others?

We have done some limited testing of our own on this and have one or two suggestions which you will find here: Power supply for Telraam S2 Outdoor (this would work for Indoor as well) but there are many different solutions out there and not all batteries work the same way, so your experience might be a big help for someone else.

Yes… no problem. And it will run for months on a small LiFePo 12V, 100Ah battery without even charging. Only 19 lbs, and tiny! Runs forever, off-grid with a small PV panel.

I’m running one external unit, attached to a citizen’s fence overlooking the road, which is powered by a lead-acid car battery, with 12V to 5V USB power supply (Amazon.co.uk) - it lasts about a month with a 90AH battery. Recently added a small (20W) solar panel to keep the battery topped up, but the battery box is also in a bit of a shaded position, so still needed to swap the battery after around 6 weeks. One of the problems with this approach is that the [cheap] USB DC:DC converter doesn’t cut out until the car battery reaches ~5.5V, so the battery gets completely discharged (which will ultimately damage it by sulphation of the plates). But our local car repair garage always has plenty of “old” batteries to give me, which can’t deliver 300A of current to start the car, but will happily deliver 1W to power the Telraam.
