Asking for Guidance on Data Analysis and Telraam Setup

Hello Everyone,

I’ve recently set up my Telraam device and am excited to start collecting traffic data, but I’m encountering a few challenges that I hope the community can help with. Specifically, I’m looking for guidance on the best practices for setup and data analysis, and any tips for getting the most accurate results from my device.

  1. Device Placement: I’ve placed my Telraam unit near a busy intersection, but I’m unsure if the location is optimal for capturing the most relevant traffic data. Are there any suggestions for ideal placements, especially in urban environments where traffic density is high?
  2. Data Accuracy: While the device seems to be capturing data, I’m not entirely confident about the accuracy of the measurements, especially in terms of vehicle types and counts. Are there any calibration tips or methods to improve accuracy? How can I ensure that external factors like weather or surrounding objects don’t skew the data?
  3. Analysis and Integration: I’m also interested in learning more about how to analyze the collected data effectively. I’m particularly curious about integrating the data with other platforms or visualizing it in a way that highlights trends over time. Does anyone have experience with using the Telraam data alongside other traffic analysis tools?
  4. Community Insights: Lastly, I’d love to hear from others in the community about their experiences and any unique use cases. Are there any interesting patterns or discoveries you’ve made that you weren’t expecting?

I also checked this: https://talks.telraam.net/t/analysing-your-telraam-data-insights-from-kris-vanherle/alteryx but didn’t get any clarification.

Looking forward to your insights and advice! Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @emiliasen0612 and thanks so much for joining us

I’m sure others will have ideas to share, but I thought I might reply with a few pointers to kick this off

We do ask that our devices are not placed at intersections - please see: Requirements for the installation of a Telraam in my window

The device works by seeing objects move across the screen from side to side, so needs to be perpendicular to the motion on the street (as much as possible). An intersection will have objects moving in all directions and will therefore not result in accurate counts.

Is it possible to have it focus on the street away from the intersection itself?

This could be related to the above issues. There is no specific way to ‘calibrate’ the device but anything you can do to ensure a clear view will help. Also, make sure you have set the ROI

Getting these right early on will help to make the data as useful as possible so you can then do the analysis, visualisation and communication.

Do share your camera location once it is set up and we can check out the data you gather
